The deep breath before the plunge

This is the post excerpt.

“It’s so quiet.”

Gandalf: “It’s the deep breath before the plunge.”

Pippin: “I don’t want to be in a battle, but waiting on the edge of one I can’t escape is even worse!

I wish could relate to Pippin here and say its’s all been quiet in the lead up to the ride. In actual fact it’s been organised chaos (emphasis on the chaos) with brief moments of quiet where I can begin to contemplate the enormity of the challenge before me and while it might not be as serious as the hordes of Mordor, it’s still a liiittle bit intimidating. In general I am just focusing on what I need to do now. For the last two weeks that has involved lots of yoga, sports massages, lightning my training load, more yoga, getting my back clicked by the chiropractor. This all feels right and sensible.

But there is a lingering feeling of not feeling of dis-ease around wondering if my body is ready for the challenge. My mind and spirit is ready. But really you need all three – mind, body and spirit. Recently I have been finding those three working in nice harmony together by basically doing as much yoga as I can and it’s been friggin awesome. I am incredibly grateful that I am able to practice at both places I work in Guildford, TurnFit (http://www.turnfit.co.uk)  and Red Hot Yoga (http://www.redhotyoga.co.uk). And this new routine of yoga is what I need maintain on my trip, as the yoga has been teaching me to go within and really listen to how my body is feeling and what it is capable of as, regardless of what I try to tell myself,  I am not bombproof! If I can carry that same awareness from the yoga mat to the road I think I will fly along. Anyways, better go talk to a man about a downward facing dog then 🙂
